1. Tiger Beach (Laohutan) Ocean Park

Situated in the central part of the southern seashore of Dalian City, the Tiger Beach Ocean Park (Laohutan Ocean Park) is the biggest modern lido in China with a total area of 1,180,000 square meters (about 291 acres) and a coastline of more than 4,000 meters (about 13,123 feet). In the Park, many attractive natural sceneries and magnificent man-made sights can be seen, especially the Tigers Sculpture Square and Tiger Beach Polar Region Marine Animals World. As a modern ocean park, Tiger Beach Ocean Park is one specializing in tourism, recreation, shopping and so on and is regarded as the Dalian people's favorite park.

2. Bangchuidao Scenic Area

9 kilometers (some 5 miles) away from the center of Dalian City, Bangchuidao Scenic Area is located in the east of the Binhai Road. It consists of Bangchuidao Islet, the natural lido and Bangchuidao Hotel. It is a famous seashore resort combining marvelous scenery of hills, sea, islet and beach.Surrounded by hills, the northern part of the scenic spot appears beautiful and verdant. The hills are densely planted with flourishing pine trees and cypresses. The southern part is an open maritime area featuring a smooth sand beach. The adjacent lido is regarded as one of the best in Dalian City. 600 meters (some 1968 feet) away from the seashore is the Bangchuidao Islet whose name derives from its shape. This islet is shaped like a Bangchui (wooden club) used by some Chinese people as a washing tool, thus it was named. It is relatively small, covering an area of only 0.3 square kilometers (about 74 acres), while it boasts steep cliffs, peculiar rocks and beautiful wild flowers and grasses everywhere.

3. Bingyu Valley Scenic Area

The Bingyu Valley Scenic Area, covering an area of 110 square kilometers (27,182 acres), is located in northern Zhuanghe City, 240 kilometers (149 miles) distant from Dalian City. This spectacular resort is renowned as 'Oriental Miniature Switzerland'. It is also acclaimed as 'Little Guilin' which is internationally known for its extraordinary landscapes. These vistas present rugged cliffs, astonishing peaks, and clear rivers wending their way through luxuriant virgin forests. This fascinating area, full of ecological significance, truly deserves its reputation as one of best-kept secrets of China.The Bingyu Valley Scenic Area consists of the Longhua Mountain, the Xiaoyu (small) Valley and the Yingna River. The mountain gives visitors a sense of both loftiness and elegance, imbuing the visitor with both boldness and tranquility. Amongst the numerous scattered peaks you can discern many phantasms and figures, such as a gnarling tiger, a tiercel spreading its wings, or a long sharp sword.

4. Discoveryland Theme Park

Discoveryland Theme Park is located on the Golden Coast of the Jinshitan Scenic Area (also called Golden Pebble Beach National Resort), Dalian City of Liaoning Province. Covering an area of around 116 acres (47 hectares), it is the second largest theme park in Northeast China with various advanced recreational facilities.Discoveryland Theme Park comprises seven amusement areas scattered around a big lake, including Crazy Town, Mysterious Desert, Metal Factory, Magic Forest, Legendary Castle, Wedding Palace and American Avenue in an anticlockwise direction.Entering the Dalian Discovery Kingdom, visitors can see a beautiful European style fountain on a large square called Discovery Square. They can take photos with the animated cartoon figures here. Passing the Discovery Square, visitors can start their discovery tours anticlockwise because the amusement areas are mainly located on the right side of the lake.

5. Jinshitan Scenic Area (Golden Pebble Beach National Resort)

Jinshitan Scenic Area, also known as the Golden Pebble Beach National Resort, is situated in the Liaodong Peninsula and facing the Huanghai River. It is about 50 kilometers (31 miles) away from the northeast of Dalian City. It comprises two peninsulas with a spacious beach in-between, with a land area of 62 square kilometers (15,321 acres) and a water surface of 58 square kilometers (14,322 acres). Encircled by sea all around, the beach enjoys a coastline of 30 kilometers (19 miles).The region has an oceanic monsoon climate, with mild temperature and a distinct four seasons. Environment here is among the best throughout the country. Fresh air, clean sea water and spacious beach that extended four kilometers (2.5 miles) along the coast line attract tourists, especially swimmers, from home and abroad every year. It is also the location of the marine sports centre where various trainings are carried out.

6. Xinghai Park

Xinghai Park is situated on the southwestern side of Dalian City and borders Xinghai Bay from which it takes its name. Some 800 meters (just under half a mile) in length, the park has luxuriant trees and flowers on the landward side while the coastal side comprises a beach of golden sands.The park attracts many visitors as it is a haven of tranquility as well as offering excellent facilities for bathing from its safe beach where the water is neither too deep nor subject to other than moderate waves. As well as the natural beauty of the park the visitors will be drawn to the architectural delights of the Qile Pavilion, Wanghai Pavilion and Yingchao Pavilion that are connected by cobblestone footpaths.

7. Dalian Square

▶ Zhongshan Square

Also called 'Nicholas Square', it was originally built in the Russian colonial period. This round square is typical of the blending of western styles of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance with a variety of old European style buildings surrounding an elegant marble circle terrace. Today, government financial institutions are housed in those old buildings and the square becomes a weekend leisure place for local people. At night it is colorfully illuminated.

▶ Renmin Square

This is a more dynamic place with a charming music fountain in the south. Opposite the beautiful fountain are the municipal government institutions including the public security bureau, municipal court and procurator's office.

▶ Youhao Square

It was built to commemorate the friendship of China and the former Soviet Union. The illuminated crystal-ball architecture in the middle of the square is eye-catching. The five hands holding the ball resemble the solidarity of people from five continents of the world. At night, the colored lights inside the crystal-ball make it a dazzling view - it is popular with photographers. The neighboring area is the entertaining and cultural center of the city dotted with numerous cinemas and entertainment places.

▶ Haizhiyun (Melody of Sea) Square

With a group of artistic sculptures resembling soaring seagulls and a flying dragon, it is the entrance to the northeastern section of Binhai Lu, the most scenic coastal area of the city. A man-made waterfall is built in its middle with various totem sculptures that present the harmony of human and nature.

8. Lushun (Port Arthur)

Also known as 'Port Arthur', Lushun occupies the west end of Dalian City and the south edge of the Liaodong Peninsula, surrounded by sea on three sides. In this advantaged geographical position, it is a beautiful tourist city zone with a long history.

▶ The Island of Snakes

This is a small island covering less than 2 square kilometers (0.77 square mile), off the northwest coast of Lushun, and is the home to over 1, 5000 snakes. Exotic rocks, luxuriant forests and plants provide their natural environment, where they prey on migratory birds for food. In Lushun, there is a snake museum which in addition to exhibits is home to relevant research. This is the prime Snake Eco-museum in Asia, and its hundreds of viper specimens ensure plenty of excitement for visitors. Also, the Snake-Island Natural History Museum is also well worth seeing.

▶ Lushun Museum

Originally built in 1917, the world-class museum covers an area of 25,000 square meters (29,900 square yards) and is of a stately, elegant European style. Over 100,000 cultural relics are displayed in two themes: historical cultural relics and local cultural relics. Among them, there are bronzes, ancient coins, paintings and calligraphies, mummies, and some foreign relics.

▶ World Peace Park

This seashore park was completed in 2002 with a theme of psalms by world heads of states. In 1998, they each wrote a poem in their mother tongue praying for world peace. These people included the past Chinese President Jiang Zemin and American President Clinton. The bronze statues of 96 heads of state and their poems are carved as the major feature. There are also artworks and fine stamps with the theme of peace presented by world countries.
